2. What is a ringtone? |
A ringtone is a tune that plays when your phone is receiving a call. Ringtones allow you to personalize the way your phone rings. Ringtones can be a sound effect, a monophonic melody made of similar tones, polyphonic melodies made of various instruments or even an actual song, in the form of MP3 music. Most manufacturers design their phones so that users can not only choose from many musical ringtones but also program their own for a very personalized ringtone and, in other cases, ringtones can be downloaded through a WAP connection. |
3. What are the different types of ringtones? |
Cingular offers three main types of ringtones: monophonic, polyphonic, and Super Tone. Your phone model determines which type will work. |
4.What are polyphonic ringtones? |
Polyphonic ringtones are the best kind of ringtone because they are more advanced musically. Regular ringtones are monophonic, which means that only one note can be heard at a time. But Polyphonic ringtones can play several notes at the same time, combining for example a piano sound with drum and base. In other words, the difference between regular ringtones and polyphonic ringtones is equivalent to the difference between a solo flute player and a whole orchestra. The standard for polyphonic ringtones is the well-known MIDI file format. |
5.What happens once my phone receives a ringtone sent by SMS? |
Your phone will automatically recognize the message as a ringtone and prompt you: "New ringing tone received". You will then be given the option to listen to it, delete it or store it and keep it. |
